Server Rules

// Last updated: May 04, 2026. The city is open to everyone — read these before you connect. Ignorance isn't a defense in a report.

General Rules

Community basics

This is an 18+ server. A working, quality microphone is required. This is an English-only server — you must be able to understand and speak English fluently. Your character must have a realistic name. AFKing in the server for extended periods is prohibited. The official Discord rules also apply.

Ban stacking

If you receive a total of 3 bans within a month, it becomes a 90-day ban and a character wipe — no exceptions.

Hospital-area rule breaks

If you break a server rule at or near one of our hospitals, your ban is doubled. If you then open an appeal knowing you broke the rule and ask for a reduction, your ban is tripled.

No real-money trading

You may not sell any assets in the city for real-life money — all transactions must use in-city money. Selling a 1-of-1 through 4-of-4 requires opening a ticket with management to complete the transaction. Anyone caught selling assets for IRL money, or trading 1-of-1s through 4-of-4s without a ticket, receives a character wipe, possible removal from the community, and the transaction is reversed. Reporting these transactions is rewarded.

Core Roleplay

A Stay in character at all times

If there's an issue, completely role-play out the scenario and report the player afterward if needed. Do not break character or tell a player in-game that they're breaking a rule — that can count as "going OOC," which is itself a rule break. Do not perform actions in game to bait others into breaking roleplay.

A Server restarts

Roleplay shouldn't stop or become less serious before a restart — it continues as normal. You cannot initiate any criminal activity 30 minutes before or after a scheduled restart. Any roleplay interrupted by a restart must resume once the city is back online.

A / B Powergaming & Fail RP

Using out-of-game means to gain an advantage, or acting in an unrealistic way, is prohibited. This includes:

  • Talking, organizing, or calling out locations while downed.
  • Chasing the fastest way to make money instead of focusing on interactions.
  • Escorting people in vehicles instead of using the F1 "put in vehicle" command.
  • Use /me and /notepad as much as possible to aid scenes — but not while downed, unless it's to aid EMS roleplay (e.g. answering a medic's "what do I see" with a /me).
  • Driving unrealistically with no RP (continuing after a crash, etc.). After a hard crash in a chase, wait at least 5 seconds before continuing, and act out your injury.
  • Act out injuries from being hurt in a scene (shot, falls, car crashes) to aid EMS and Police roleplay.
  • Combat logging — disconnecting from an RP situation to avoid consequences — is prohibited.
  • Government employees should obey road laws; not doing so can be Fail RP.
  • Transferring funds between two of your own characters is not permitted (directly, via a business account, from a dead character, or to another player) without going through the DOJ for a Last Will and Testament.
  • When hitting heists or doing crime, prioritize roleplay over the "win" or getting away.
  • Ocean/body dumping requires at least 3 RP interactions with the person or group.
  • Permanent alterations to another player (e.g. cutting off limbs) require prior OOC agreement from both parties. Temporary alterations (cutting hair, beards) are allowed with proper RP buildup.

D Metagaming & Exploiting

Using or relaying information your character didn't learn in-game (including Twitch chat and Discord channels) to shape roleplay is prohibited. Exploiting server bugs and not reporting them is prohibited. Using supporter-tier discounts to buy and flip assets for profit is not allowed.

Combat & Death

C Violent RP

Repetitive violence against anyone — robbing, stalking, killing — is prohibited; conflicts must have a proper beginning and a clear ending. Players who are killed may not seek revenge until an hour has passed, and only if they learned of it through proper means (business cameras, body cam, friends, EMS/Police). Always engage in non-violent roleplay before violence, and keep escalation proportionate — a verbal altercation shouldn't jump straight to a shootout; it escalates from words, to fists, then to deadly weapons.

A Loot boxing

Looting any player (including police) without prior roleplay is prohibited — you can't rob players you haven't interacted with. Heists, raids, gang missions, and official gang wars count as proper interaction with PD. You may always rob body cams from any situation. Pocket wiping is prohibited — don't rob items with no personal value to you (phones, food, mechanic tools, etc.).

B Scamming

The maximum you may scam is $500,000. Trading a vehicle for another vehicle with the intent not to fulfill your side of the deal is prohibited.

C RDM & VDM

Attacking a player or group with no story/roleplay leading up to it (RDM), or using a vehicle to kill/knock someone without valid reason or initiation (VDM), is prohibited. You cannot ram other vehicles unless you are a police officer, and never in populated areas where the risk to bystanders (including locals) is increased.

B New Life Rule (NLR)

If you're downed and respawn at the hospital, your character forgets the immediate events leading up to being downed in that scenario. You may not respawn if you've been advised that police or EMS are on the way. You can't use "body cam" memory unless you're physically wearing one and have the item in your pockets — otherwise ask friends, EMS, or Police. If killed at a business, you may ask the owner to review CCTV only if someone told you where you were killed. If you're downed and revived (crim-doc or EMS), you may not re-engage the original scenario.

B Not Valuing Life (NVL)

Realistically fear for your life when threatened with weapons or severe harm. Don't antagonize gangs, police, or armed individuals with no character reason. Don't start a scene likely to turn violent (e.g. shit-talking) while on a crutch. Don't insert yourself into ongoing situations or shootouts you're not involved in, and don't interfere with others' heists or robberies once they've started.

Crime, Gangs & Wars

B / C Criminal activities & gang conflicts

  • PvP-oriented criminal groups are limited to 10 players at a time; any heist activity is limited to 4.
  • Relaying information between characters (lookouts, radio) counts you as part of that activity.
  • If you're not affiliated, you can't rep a color as a group to imply you're in a gang.
  • You can't change your appearance for 15 minutes after committing a crime.
  • Choosing to shoot/grind over roleplaying is not acceptable.
  • No chain robbing — wait 15 minutes between heists.
  • After hitting a heist (anything on the scoreboard), wait 5 minutes for a police response before escaping; if police don't show, you're free to go.
  • Never exceed the max number allowed on a heist (both Crims and PD).
  • To participate in a gang war/conflict, a member must be on the "Active Gang Roster" (fly in at least 10 days within a 30-day period). Violations fine the organization $1,500,000 and ban the member for a minimum of 14 days.
  • Wear gang colors at all times during gang activities.
  • A gang war requires a face-to-face meeting between leaders; the declaration and the start of the war cannot be the same scene. Once initiated, the leader must open a ticket with management to set the terms/wagers.
  • Combat alliances between gangs are not allowed — your conflict should only involve your gang and the opposing gang. (Non-combat business between gangs is fine.)
  • If you're arrested and being processed when a restart hits, you must turn yourself back in to continue the roleplay after the restart.
  • You cannot storm a police station to demand a release, or take a hostage to exchange for someone in custody — treat the station as staffed PD headquarters.

Special Characters

A No supernatural characters

Vampires, ghosts, sasquatches, aliens, androids, gods, magical beings, talking animals, witches and warlocks, and similar are not allowed. Any roleplay of this kind must be pre-reviewed and approved by management.

A Serial killer / hitman characters

Serial-killer characters must be approved by management, with a story that has a definitive ending; if caught and convicted, there's no possibility of parole. Hitman characters — and each contract — must be approved by management before the hit takes place.

A Permanent death (character kills)

If your character dies or is pronounced dead for a character kill, they remain dead forever. No resurrections, revivals, or rituals — and no bringing them back as the same character with the same name.

A Suicidal roleplay

Players are not to engage in suicidal roleplay under any circumstances.

A No underage characters

All characters must be over 18 years of age unless approved by management.

Police & EMS

D Conduct

If you're in a command position, give advance notice before leaving it. Police/EMS must behave professionally toward the public, and all interactions must be proportionate to your character and the scene. You cannot be a corrupt cop/EMS without management approval. Cop baiting — breaking laws or shooting guns to get a cop's attention — is not allowed. Police being held up or in immediate danger are not to hit their panic buttons (doing so is NVL). You cannot secure another player from police custody unless it's during or prior to transport.

Cop & gang cousins

You may have a cop and a gang cousin, but you must not blend or share information learned on your cop cousin with your gang cousin. Doing so carries severe consequences: you'll be fired and blacklisted from ever joining PD again, receive a character wipe on both characters, and a 30-day ban — and the associated gang receives a gang strike and fine. This keeps roleplay on both sides unbiased and fair.

Cayo Perico

Island zone rules

While on Cayo Perico Island, the following rule categories do not apply for all players (including police): Criminal Activities / Gang Conflicts & Wars, Not Valuing Life (NVL), New Life Rule (NLR), RDM & VDM, Loot boxing, and Violent RP.

What happens on Cayo, stays on Cayo — no beef can be brought back to Los Santos.

Basic Decency & Respect

Respect the community

The Hideout prioritizes a welcoming, inclusive environment for all members regardless of gender, sexual orientation, or age. We strictly enforce a code of conduct that prohibits derogatory language or actions such as sexual harassment, excessive name-calling, or personal attacks. "It's my character" is not an excuse. Staff are available to address any issue, big or small. While players may voice their opinion and defend themselves, under no circumstances — right or wrong — should a player disrespect staff. We are The Hideout Community.
